Correlated Event-by-Event Fluctuations of Flow Harmonics

چکیده

We report the measurements of correlations between event-by-event fluctuations of amplitudes of anisotropic flow harmonics in nucleus-nucleus collisions, obtained for the first time using a new analysis method based on multiparticle cumulants in mixed harmonics. This novel method is robust against systematic biases originating from nonflow effects and by construction any dependence on symmetry planes is eliminated. We demonstrate that correlations of flow harmonics exhibit a better sensitivity to medium properties than the individual flow harmonics. The new measurements are performed in Pb-Pb collisions at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of ffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffi sNN p 1⁄4 2.76 TeV by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The centrality dependence of correlation between event-by-event fluctuations of the elliptic v2 and quadrangular v4 flow harmonics, as well as of anticorrelation between v2 and triangular v3 flow harmonics are presented. The results cover two different regimes of the initial state configurations: geometry dominated (in midcentral collisions) and fluctuation dominated (in the most central collisions). Comparisons are made to predictions from Monte Carlo Glauber, viscous hydrodynamics, AMPT, and HIJING models. Together with the existing measurements of the individual flow harmonics the presented results provide further constraints on the initial conditions and the transport properties of the system produced in heavy-ion collisions.

Giuh- Gciuh Comparison for Two Watersheds in Iran (RESEARCH NOTE)

Two representative watersheds, Ammameh and Kasilian, located in Southern and Norten Elborz mountain in Iran respectively were considered. Fourteen events of rainfall-runoff in nonmelting seaons were chosen and their storms and flood hydrographs were gathered from an automatic recording station. Base flow separation was made by recession limb analysis while Philip equation was used for the calcu...

A method for determining event-by-event elliptic flow fluctuations based on the first-order event plane in heavy-ion collisions

A new method is presented for determining event-by-event fluctuations of elliptic flow, v2, using first-order event planes. By studying the event-by-event distributions of v2 observables and first-order event-plane observables, average flow 〈v2〉 and event-by-event flow fluctuations can be separately determined, making appropriate allowance for the effects of finite multiplicity and nonflow. The...

Turbulent Events and Gas-Side Mass Transfer Coefficients in a Wavy Air-Water Stratified Flow

Turbulence structure on the gas side of a wavy stratified flow was experimentally investigated in a near horizontal 18.7 cm (H) 10 cm (W) 5.5m (L) rectangular duct.By applying the Variable Interval Time Averaging (VITA) technique to the hot wire anemometer measurements frequency of occurrence of turbulent events were detected near the air-water interface. Experimental results showed that fr...

Jet modifications in event-by-event hydrodynamically evolving media

The nearly perfect fluid-like nature of the Quark Gluon Plasma may be understood through two key experimental signatures: collective flow and jet suppression. Event-by-event relativistic viscous hydrodynamics (with an extremely small shear viscosity to entropy density ratio) has been very successful at describing collective flow observables for the last 7 years. More recently, the effects of ev...

Overview of Event-by-event Analysis of High Energy Nuclear Collisions

The event-by-event analysis of high energy nuclear collisions aims at revealing the richness of the underlying event structures and provide unique measures of dynamical fluctuations associated with QGP phase transition. The major challenge in these studies is to separate the dynamical fluctuations from the many other sources which contribute to the measured values. We present the fluctuations i...
